On the day of your tattoo

Depending on what type of aftercare is given will be slightly different:

- If your tattoo has been wrapped with just clingfilm, please only keep this on for a maximum of 2 hours.

- If second skin has been put over your new tattoo please leave it on for 3 days maximum

Second Skin

-When you're removing your second skin, I would recommend grabbing a corner and stretching the corner towards you rather than peeling it away or downwards like a plaster.

-Also recommend soap and warm water while removing the second skin, This should make it easier and nicer to remove.

-Once it has been taken off, sometimes a sticky residue can be left around the edges-if so, use some coconut oil or a natural oil to remove the stickiness.

-Then Refer to next aftercare stages.

Cling Film

If Cling film was applied after your tattoo

-Remove the clingfilm after 2 hours

-Gently wash the tattoo with a soap (i.e. antibacterial (not to harsh) dove, sanex or a non perfumed soap)

-Pat the tattoo dry with a clean kitchen roll or let it air dry ( wouldn't recommend using a fluffy towel)

-Then I recommend putting a moisturising cream over it.

Moisturising your tattoo

After you have removed your clingfilm/second skin, I then recommend using a moisturising cream. The moisturising cream should be limited or unscented and natural if possible. There is a balm sold in the studio which we recommend or you can use Palmer’s Cocoa Butter (unscented if possible), butterluxe products or coconut oil.

-When moisturising your tattoo, it should be at least twice a day. Recommend whenever you get up and then whenever you go to bed. If it’s a particularly drier area I.e. elbows/shins/ankles, a small amount can be applied more to it if needed.

-You will not need lots of moisturiser on your tattoo, just a thin layer to cover it, as your tattoo needs to breathe.

-Make sure to always clean the old moisturiser away before putting new moisturiser on, with soapy water and applied with clean hands (to keep contamination and infection risks down).

-The tattoo may become itchy as it begins to heal. This can be normal, at this stage though it is vulnerable to fall out. Please do not pick or avoid scratching the tattoo. Gently pat the area or recommend using a clean, cold towel to ease the itching.

Second Skin

if a second skin has been applied to your tattoo:

-Please keep on for a maximum of 3 days

-If you notice any extreme itchiness or unusually red (more than a fresh tattoo should be) please take the second skin off straight away and wash the area.

Aftercare Musts!

-Do not submerge your tattoo for at least 3 weeks after your tattoo. No baths, hot tubs, swimming in pools, or the sea. Showers are fine and even on the day of you getting your tattoo, just make sure the temperature isn’t too hot directly onto the tattoo.

-Would also not recommend going to saunas/spas/steam rooms straight after your tattoo. The pores will open and on a fresh tattoo, bacteria could get in and cause an infection.

-Please do not expose your fresh tattoo to direct sun or sunbeds for at least 3-4 weeks of having the tattoo. This can damage the tattoo and your skin! After the tattoo is fully healed, please make sure to put SPF on your tattoo if you're out in the sun.
